The new year is around the corner and it’s the perfect time to revive the cliché of “New Year, New Me.” What if you did take those words seriously and said, “How about a new me?” Here are a few ways you can switch up your style in the new year to make a statement in self-expression:
Add more color
You may have always been the person to wear solids and neutral colors like black, grey, or white. In the new year, why not switch things up by adding bold pops of color? Whether it’s a bright bandana for your hair or a new dress in a color you would have never worn before, adding color to your wardrobe can be a fabulous thing and a way to show up differently this year. Think about the color that you feel looks best with you, whether it’s red or yellow, green or blue. Add various accessories that have that color or go all out with a shirt or dress in that color. You’d be amazed at what the right color can do for you.
Switch up your shoes
If you’ve always worn heels, maybe this year you can start adding women’s flats to your shoe collection. While heels have long been an element of style in many closets, pairing flats with the right outfit can be the perfect way to both look good while also staying as comfortable as possible. Maybe you typically wearboots? Add some Converse to the shoe mix and see how you feel.
Wear that thing you’d never wear
It could be patterns on patterns or maybe high-waisted jeans—whatever scares you, why not try it in the world of fashion? You can use an app that helps you put outfits together or simply browse websites online
to try to think outside the box when it comes to your style. Who knows? You may find yourself falling in love with clothes you never thought you’d be caught dead wearing.
Invest in accessories
Accessories can add a lot to your style. Whether it’s a simple pair of earrings that frame your face perfectly or a handbag that is as useful as it is beautiful, there are so many different ways to include accessories in your style that can completely up your fashion game. Consider investing in a couple of staples so you stand out for any occasion. Check out online style magazines for ideas.
Wear older trends
Look in your closet or ask to look at your parent’s closet. Perhaps there are some older items that can be reused in 2022, not only helping you to practice sustainability in the way you dress, but also helping you to up your style game. Most trends are actually renewed styles from other decades. So, whether there are some high-waisted pants from the 80s that you can use from hand-me-downs or a sweater you used to wear as a teenager, you may be surprised at how stylish your old clothes can be. Who says it has to be brand new for it to be a new style for the new year?
In Conclusion
It’s always fun to switch up our style a bit, especially when ringing in a new year. Maybe you never used to wear stripes, or you avoid bright colors—try something new by incorporating unique styles or trends into your wardrobes. Stepping outside of your comfort zone with your fashion choices may be the best thing you’ve ever done. Up your style game by expressing yourself through the clothes and trends that feel good for you and that help you look your best! If you feel a bit clueless about fashion, consider hiring a professional stylist to help.
