Life Changes To Help You Weather The Cost-Of-Living Storm

Sharing is caring!

With the cost-of-living becoming unsustainable, many people are cutting back on their expenses, the pound is dropping, and it looks like the economy is going to dip into serious recession. But instead of looking at the upcoming financial events as a disaster, we adapt and adjust, as the situation demands.

In this post, we take a look at some simple life changes that you can make to help you weather the financial storm that’s brewing. Here’s what to do:

Downsize

If you want to cut your living costs significantly every month, one option is to downsize. Reducing the size of your home lets you pay less on your mortgage or on rents every month, freeing up cash for other things you need. It also significantly cuts your bills because there are fewer rooms to heat and cool.

If you are single, you might want to consider sharing accommodation with other people to reduce costs. Renting a single room in a larger house can slash your bills and budget by more than 50 percent, giving you more disposable income to enjoy every month.

Improve Your Financial Skills

Instead of cutting back, another option is to figure out ways to make more money. Improving your financial skills lets you make better use of the money you have, or make more of it.

If you love the idea of buying and selling stocks, you can explore day trading for beginners here. Once you understand the tools of the trade, you can find ways to make money when the value of securities goes up and down.

You might also want to learn how to invest in the markets long-term. There are several schools of thought surrounding this, so you’ll need to pick the one that seems right to you. Once you have a proven strategy backing up your decisions, you can feel more confident about your financial position and, hopefully, make additional money that will protect you against cost of living increases.

Reevaluate What You Want From Life

When things are going well, we rarely stop to pause. Instead, we waltz through life, assuming that things will always be the same.

However, when crises hit, it’s a chance for us to rethink how we are spending our time on Earth. Do we need to consume as much as we do? Or might we actually be a little happier with less?

Dump Unused Subscriptions

Many of us have unused subscriptions for all sorts of things. Perhaps we’ve signed up to a food box service that we never use, or we have a fancy gym membership that remains dormant for most of the year.

If you have unused subscriptions, start cancelling them. Only keep the ones that you actually consume and derive benefit from.

Have Zero Spend Weekends

Lastly, it can be tempting to go out at the weekend at the end of a difficult week and spend all your money. However, this is a bad habit. If you do this, weekend after weekend, you’ll eventually bump up against your own personal cost-of-living crisis.

Instead, shoot for zero-spend weekends. Read a book, go hiking or just watch TV. Avoid reaching for your purse.
