When you look around any area of your home, be it your bedroom or your living room, you should feel as if it’s a space that reflects your personality. Your home is your retreat from the world, or at least, mine is my retreat from the chaos of daily life. So it’s important that it’s not just somewhere that’s beautifully designed and decorated, but also a place that’s got a personal feel to it. To give any area of your home a sense of personality and warmth, take inspiration from these ideas.

Pick out cute, quirky accessories

The key to success when it comes to adding a personalised look and feel to your home is the use of accessories. Believe it or not, a few well thought out accessories can make a big difference to the look and feel of any area within your home. It’s just a case of taking the time to select the perfect accessories that suit your sense of style. From throw cushions to soap dishes, don’t be afraid to swap out your home’s accessories now and then. Your home should say something about who you are and what your personality is, which is why accessorising is so important.

Showcase yours’ and your family’s experiences

Instead of buying random pieces of wall art, showcase yours’ and your family’s experiences. Are you a family that travels a lot? Then how about decorating one area of your home with postcards from all the places that you’ve been to? This could be on the walls or on a piece of furniture, such as an old cupboard. Or, how about having a big vintage-style map on the wall as an accent piece and placing pins on it to mark where you have been? Have you ever had a family photo shoot? My family photo has become my blog header and we also have it on our wall. Then how about buying cheap frames and filling them with your photo shoot pictures and using them instead of wall art? There’s nothing better to personalise a space than family snaps. Is anyone in your family artistic? Then how about using their pieces of art to decorate? What could be more personal that using custom-made artwork in your home?

Opt for unique pieces of furniture

One of the best ways to personalise your home is by adding unique pieces of furniture to it. Instead of opting for pieces of furniture that are generic, be a little more creative. Don’t buy from stores selling furniture that’s rolled out in its thousands, buy pieces that are unique. By filling your home with pieces of furniture that are unique, you can help to make it look and feel more personal. Adding a sense of extra cosiness and warmth.

So there you have it, the little touches that will add a sense of personality and warmth to any area of your home. If you want to make your home look and feel like a more personalised space, it’s important to find little ways to make it more unique. This is something that, believe it or not, is actually much easier than you would think.

Very informative. With increasing double income, nuclear families, it has become much easier to afford designer homes. Additionally, the present generation has the ability to recognise, acquire and put together an ideal collection of unique, hand-picked objects that reflect ones personal style, taste and hence social status.
