How can we forget fidget spinners? Wait, we haven’t forgotten them? One of our lost a weight so it spins rather wonkily now, the other one gets a go every now and again. There’s a new fidget type toy that is being released in the UK today (7/7/17) that is set to be the new craze for children and adults. We’ve had ours for a couple of weeks but have been under strict instructions not to share any info until now. So I can finally share with you this amazing toy!
It’s a stick. But wait, it’s not just a stick, it’s designed and engineered to ensure perfect balance and is made from the finest quality beech wood and quality materials. This seemingly simple handheld wooden toy was originally designed to test an individual’s balance and focus – now this simple design is testing the dexterity of fast fingered flippers everywhere. Players can flip tip and spin one MOKURU or more. Still don’t get it? Well we had to watch a video of some japanese guys using it so it’s only fair I inflict a video on you guys too. It’s short, I promise:
Even Daniel can do it, and Mummy too. It fits nicely in the hand and it’s very tactile. I catch myself playing with it when it’s close by. The kids love it, and at least it’s not plastic and it doesn’t need batteries. I know I should have cleared the mess before filming but I’m just trying to keep it real.
On to the details of where to buy MOKURU and a warning. MOKURU is available in several different colour choices: green (Matcha), orange, (Kirin) white (Byakko), red (Suzaku), blue (Seiryu) and yellow (Inazuma). You can buy them from SMYTHS Toys and Amazon for around £14.99. No that’s not a typo, but at least it won’t break. WARNING: there are lots of fakes available but only MOKURU is the real one, the wood should be engraved. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket or bag, MOKURU is the go anywhere toy for all ages, a new game for kids to play in the playground, and for big kids to play in the bar, at a desk, or to be played against others in competition. Players can refine their techniques until they become a MOKURU master. MOKURU is the new black or, as the Japanese say, Genbu.
The designer Masakazu Node has worked hard to ‘create the perfect size, shape and materials for MOKURU. Now the fast flipping toy will be distributed in the UK and Ireland exclusively by Peterkin. It’s already a big hit in many markets around the world, including Japan and Hong Kong, beginners can simply tip over the toy, let it flip and catch it with their fingers or flip it to draw a triangle or square. MOKURU masters can use five MOKURU at once with one hand. It claims to help focus and concentration, imagination and alleviate stress.
Let me know what you think – next big thing or big fuss about nothing? You can never tell what’s going to take off, we’ll see…
