Baby essentials checklist

As the birth of your new-born looms ever nearer, you will probably be feeling a mixture of emotions all rolled into one, restlessness, nervousness, excitement, terrified, joyous, and inpatient. It is an important occasion to prepare for, so the more you can be organised in advance the better it will be for you nearer the due date, particularly if you are a first-time mum as it is all a new experience for you.

So, stocking up in advance for essential items like a pushchair, bedding, car seating, baby clothing and a play mat can all be found in various baby stores, as well as buying the usual items like nappies, baby formula, clothing, and dummies. It will probably be worthwhile keeping a notepad for your new arrival so that you can cross off items from your list.

Luckily during this pandemic over the course of the last 9 months (the same length of time as nurturing a baby funnily enough!) the ability to shop online is extremely easy to do, particularly when you are spending most of your time at home now, apart from daily exercises. Not so great for the bank account on the other hand though!

Sleep is your friend and not your enemy!

Having as much good sleep as possible is essential in the run up to having your baby so do not forget to think about yourself too. It might be worthwhile investing in a maternity pillow which could help you sleep better. It is not necessarily the number of hours you sleep each night but the quality of sleep that you get.

Once the baby has arrived, allow yourself to have naps too during the day, once you feel happy that your baby is settled in their cot or Moses basket of course. Then once the baby is born you might also find that a breastfeeding pillow could make things even more comfortable for you when it is feeding time. If you are comfortable then the baby will be as well as there will be more of a calm atmosphere.

Organise and plan ahead

Try to organise and pack an overnight bag in advance of your due date so that way you’re not rushing around like a maniac if you suddenly need to head into hospital for an appointment and end up staying overnight or of course when it is time for the big day and go into labour.

The more you do now there less there will be to do in the leadup to the big day so once you return home from the hospital you will not need to worry about trying to find all the last minute baby essentials. Goodness knows they need a lot of things, those little bundles of joys, but it is worth every penny of it when you become a mum.
