Don’t just brush, Playbrush! Teeth brushing tips for kids

We, like all parents have struggled with getting the kids to brush their teeth, with toothpaste and properly. Especially toddlers! Did you know as soon as that very first tooth appears you need to start brushing it. All mine got teeth early, at 4 months old. We just used a little finger brush at first. Now Daniel has all his baby teeth at nearly 4, we are in much more of a routine with tooth brushing, but it’s still a bit of a mission to get him to do it.

My eldest son has had to have two teeth pulled out which was very traumatic all round. It’s a relief to have something to aid us with the proper amount of time to brush. Enter Playbrush, the electric toothbrush with an app that ends the daily bathroom tantrums. It’s actually my eldest that throws the most tantrums! The playbrush app games are designed so that children brush all the way around their mouth and so they actually brush for 2 minutes twice a day.

Daniel ready to play!

The games are split into younger and older games, so it’s not just for little kids. Playbrush is aimed at children between 3 and 12 years. Firstly there is the option to make an icon with each child, you can add as many as you need. Then you can choose the game you want to play, it connects via Bluetooth to your device.

It can be a bit tricky to get the hang of the movement of the brush and the game but after they’ve got it there’s no issue. If you don’t like the electric toothbrush there’s the option of adding the Playbrush to your manual toothbrush.

The Playbrush electric toothbrush retails at £29.99 at the moment and the app is available to download for iPhone and Android users. With that you get the electric toothbrush, charging dock, 4 free games and brushing coach. There is the option to upgrade to a subscription on the app. Upgrading to the games subscription will provide you with even more brushing adventures and enable you to monitor your children’s brushing in the parents app. You can also get replacement brush heads for Playbrush Smart Sonic via the care subscription. The manual toothbrush is £19.99 right now, it includes a manual toothbrush which you can choose the colour, the bluetooth acccessory, 4 free games, brushing coach, charging cable and mobile phone holder. Good news – you can get 20% off your Playbrush order using the code MIDWIFE at the checkout.

What do the kids think?

They really engaged with the app, anything with technology and gaming involved is always a hit. They were actually fighting over who got to use it first, and they love being able to choose their own icon and profile. It’s a mini challenge for them, and I’ve noticed they brush for a lot longer when using it. Over all I’m very pleased with it. I think it’s reasonably priced for an electric toothbrush and you could try out the free games first and when you get enough of them consider the upgrade, which is £9.99.

    Hi Jenny,
Having kids brush their teeth has always been a challenge in our little family. It takes a lot of patience (and talent) to encourage them to brush their teeth. Knowing about this app is just great! 🙂
    Thank you for sharing.
    Cheers,
