When you are pregnant with a brand new baby, you’re going to be concerned with getting your home ready in a way that keeps you comfortable, your baby safe and means that you don’t have to do too much work when the baby arrives. You’re going to have a lot on your mind for the next few months but before the baby comes, you need to prepare your home as much as you need to prepare yourself for the changes ahead.

There are a lot of things that you have to consider when getting the house ready for a baby. It’s not just the crib that you have to put together, but the scrap metal you need to leave out to be collected just so it’s out of the garage and out from under your feet! Being greener with your home is just a bonus for your baby coming home with you, so here are some of the ways that you can prepare your home for your new arrival.

  1. Remember to prepare some meals. Batch cooking meals for the freezer is going to be something you are glad that you did for yourself. No one wants to be stood over a hot stove when they’re recovering from giving birth, so pack that freezer with easy to reheat meals.
  2. Speak to an expert. Bringing in the experts to add safety features all over your house is a smart idea. You don’t have to worry too much about baby-proofing until your home is invaded with a crawling baby, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have an expert come into the house and make sure that it’s ready in advance!
  3. Add new furniture. One of the key things that will help you as a new parent is to add comfortable furniture into your home. We’re talking padded gliding chairs in the nursery and in your own room for while the baby sleeps in with you. We’re talking using a mount for your tablet or smartphone so that you have something to watch during feeding time. Your home needs to be as comfortable as possible for you to be able to feel relaxed while you’re with your newborn.
  4. Add some darkness and quiet. Adding white noise machines to the rooms the baby will sleep in, and adding blackout blinds to help the baby sleep is a great way to prepare for the new arrival. You’ll be able to keep some space dark and quiet so that the baby will sleep as well as possible.
  5. Smooth your corners. All of your sophisticated furniture in the house is going to be beautiful, but it’s also going to be less than friendly for a baby around. Smoothing out the sharp corners will make things friendlier to prevent little heads from bumping into things!

Getting the house ready for a baby isn’t going to be too difficult, but you do need to get on it while you can. You may not have long until your due date, so the more you prepare, the easier it’ll be!
