My skincare routine consists of moisturising my face and hands morning and evening with the occasional face mask or facial scrub. A bit of vaseline on the lips and I’m done. I do like the odd facial in a spa too. My skin feels so soft afterward. Remember when I went for microdermabrasion? I don’t think I will make that a regular thing, but I do like to look after my skin. I’m blessed with good genes thanks to my Mama, we don’t look our age and are always getting mistaken for being younger. There are worse problems to have.
Getting the right face cream is important. I like my cream to be cruelty-free, vegan if possible (but I’m not a vegan) and natural ingredients. I also like there to be a fresh scent to uplift or comfort me. The packaging is important, it used to be I was looking for luxurious and something to pamper myself with, but now I’m more concerned about whether it can be recycled.
In this post, I am reviewing the Pure Obagi range of skincare, I have three products to show you and talk about. The first is the Obagi nu-derm clear FX skin brightening cream.
Obagi Nu-Derm® Clear Fx skin-brightening cream corrects dark spots and sun spots for clear, smooth and more healthy-looking skin when used as part of Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System. I only had one cream from the system so I can’t comment on the whole lot together. It has a thicker consistency and no fragrance. It glides on nicely and feels like it is moisturising my skin without being greasy. It leaves no residue on my skin. After using it for a couple of weeks I can’t say it made any difference to my blemishes and brown spots, but as I said I wasn’t using the whole skincare system. It’s quite pricey at 76.42 euros, so what do you get for your money? Well, it includes Lactic Acid that provides anti-oxidant protection, and 7% Arbutin that inhibits the production of dark spots/sun spots. Arbutin works by preventing the production of tyrosinase – the enzyme in the skin responsible for melanin production that leads to dark spots, also known as sun spots. So I think it works by stopping the formation of new sun spots. It’s extracted from the bearberry plant and contains additional antioxidants, which include Lactic Acid, which helps to enhance the appearance of even skin tone while protecting the skin from free radicals. Knowing about the compounds and ingredients reassures me it is doing good for my skin.
You get 57g in the tube, which you squeeze gently to get the product out. You only need a small pea-sized amount so it does last you a while.
The packaging is plastic but can be recycled.
Next up is the Obagi medical retinol 1 cream.
This cream is for old women like me who are (whispers hideously like that caffeine shampoo ad) over 40. The reason being is it helps your skin repair itself and enhance collagen. It does this by promoting cell turnover & boosting moisture levels in the epidermis. It also stimulates collagen & elastin synthesis and contains hydrating jojoba oil & shea butter to boost the firmness & elasticity of the skin.
It has a pump action to dispense the cream and again you only need a small amount. They recommend using it in the evening before bed, so it can work its magic overnight. It has a slightly yellow tinge to it and no fragrance. It comes in a cardboard box package and you get 28g. It is softer than the skin brightening cream and feels nice to apply. I liked the idea of it working whilst I slept. Sadly, I looked just as haggard in the morning.
Last up we have the Elastiderm eye treatment cream. This feels more like a luxury product, it comes in a glass pot with a plastic lid and then in a cardboard box.
The cream itself has a bluish colour and again no fragrance. It has some magical ingredients that claim to reduce crows feet and fine lines around the eyes within 2 weeks. I have been using it morning and evening for the past 2 weeks and I have noticed some small changes. It’s not a cure-all but it does help you focus your treatment on the eye area which you may have been neglecting.
It works by using patented Bi-Mineral Contour Complex™, an advanced ingredient technology, to restore ageing eyes, tighten sagging skin and give your eyes their bounce back in as little as two weeks.
The Bi-Mineral Contour Complex™ combines two minerals – zinc and copper – with malonate. Bi-Mineral Contour Complex™ has been specifically designed to support the three necessary stages of developing healthy elastin: create, convert, and organise.
On the whole, I liked all three products and I’m happy that the packaging is recyclable. It doesn’t say on the website whether it is tested on animals, but it does say they have substantial safety and efficacy trials. For the prices they charge, I think I would expect a bit more luxury feel to the products, at first glance they don’t appear very different from something you could buy on the high street, but when you look at the ingredients they are of good quality. They look more clinical and medical to me rather than something you’d be proud to display on your dressing table.
