There’s a collective awareness about the impact that aging has on fertility. It’s important to be aware of the truth because as it often goes with the internet, there are a lot of misconceptions and myths surrounding this topic of conversation.

With that being said, what should every woman know when it comes to fertility and the influence of aging? Should you be aware of your options? What are those options when fertility struggles are present?

It’s harder to get pregnant as you get older

While some women may have a lot of luck when it comes to getting pregnant during the later years, there is a biological clock on women’s fertility as opposed to men’s.

For a lot of people, they may think that the biological clock starts ticking once you hit your 40s or 50s, but it actually starts to decline within your 30s. The prime time in relation to your biological clock to get pregnant is between late teens and late twenties. Anything after that can often result in a struggle or some complications.

Knowing that it can get harder to become pregnant naturally as you get older is important because it helps give you the cards before they’re dealt to you.

Egg donation is an alternative for those struggling to conceive

The reality of aging and the decline of fertility is evident. However, for those who are struggling, there are options available that might be worth considering. For example, egg donation is a possible solution for individuals who are struggling to conceive naturally.

The process of egg donation is certainly worth exploring to see if you’d be a suitable candidate. There’s also the option of surrogacy and adoption if you want to explore all avenues that are available.

More tests will be needed for potential abnormalities

Tests are often introduced more often when it comes to women who are over the age of 35. The reason for this is that there’s a higher risk of infertility but also there’s a potential for a long list of abnormalities to arise with pregnancies over a certain age.

A lot of variables will be factored into this, including your health in general, weight, and family history. However, you can expect to be poked and prodded a little more than usual when getting pregnant in your later years of fertility.

Men’s fertility is also impacted by age

Men’s fertility is also impacted by age, despite the somewhat accurate attitude that men can provide children well into their golden years. The oldest man on record to father a child was actually 92 years old.

However, a man’s fertility will still decline around the 40-45 mark, so it’s still necessary to get started earlier on for a man too when trying to get their partner pregnant.

Aging and fertility are something that are worth talking about more often and having the information is important when navigating a pregnancy or motherhood at a later point in life.
