Life can get a little mundane at times. We can all be guilty of just living for each day. Earning our money and paying our bills. Giving a little thought to the future that lies ahead. But as parents, we will be the first to admit that time goes extremely fast. We’re already on the countdown to Christmas with X-Factor starting and Strictly hitting our screens. So when is the right time to start thinking about the future?
The truth is, the sooner you start preparing for it, the better life can be. I’m not just talking about the future of retirement. But the future could mean a year from now, five years or even ten years. Preparation today and making informed decisions could help you in the long term. Which is why I thought I would share with you some of the ways you can make positive changes for a better tomorrow. A better future for you and your family.
Our financial income is a big one. It’s what most of us head out to work for. We want an income to pay the bills, treat ourselves, and our family. But what can you do today that could secure a better financial income in the future.
Buying or investing in property
Buying a property is one of the biggest financial purchases you can make in your lifetime. Nowadays with low interest rates for mortgages, there is no better time to get a foot on the property ladder. However, it can be difficult to obtain those mortgages without a hefty deposit. If you can, it’s worth stretching yourself to get a property purchased. There are many ways you can consider doing this. The first thing you could consider is buying a property to renovate. Adding value is one way of increasing your profitability from a property. It enables you to purchase a property for a lower price and could help build up a deposit for a family home in the future. This is where it’s essential to grab info from Taylors and other estate agents local to you. Many people have the same idea and sometimes these projects are sold before they even make the internet. However, you may want to consider buying a home to rent out. Or even stretching yourself to get into a property in a good area or one that could increase in value over time. A property is a big investment, but one that could pay off in the future.
Thinking about pension plans
Thinking beyond the here and now retirement is one thing that will be here before we know it. But what many people fail to do is prepare for this time of your life. Your income will stop, and if you haven’t put anything in place, your lifestyle can drastically change. Many people now have the chance to pay into a workplace pension, like I have with the NHS, which is great as that is one way of preparing without noticing. But there could be other things you could consider to cement a way of life in those golden years. Preparing now and paying into personal pensions could offer a great income once you enter into retirement.
Earn extra income through other channels
Savings are always going to come into hand. But for many UK families, disposable income is a rarity. This is why it’s important to make sure you explore all channels of income to you. This might mean turning a hobby into a small business from home. Starting a blog to take advantage of your creative writing skills. Even considering things like mystery shopping. A lot of the time people have things in their home they no longer need, this is where sites like eBay could help you earn a few extra pounds. Savings can help towards holidays in the future, experiences for you and the family. Even offering you the chance to upgrade and change your lifestyle as each year passes. Our children are only going to get older. With that comes the added expense of higher education, first cars and maybe even helping them get on the property ladder.
Let’s be honest here. Many of us spend a good chunk of our time working or doing some job. I have a fantastic career as a community midwife, and I guess I am one of the lucky few that has a job they feel passionate about. Along with other things including my blog, I think i have a great career balance. But some are just not that lucky. This is why it’s worth taking some time out to figure what would be best for you career or job wise. Then taking the next steps to make it happen.
Never stop learning
The minute you stop learning, the minute life get’s a little boring. This is why when it comes to taking positive steps in your career, it’s always going to be good to keep that learning streak. This could help you improve in the future.Go on to bigger and better job prospects. Which of course goes hand in hand with increased income and better quality of life in the future.
Strive for your dreams
Sometimes you have to be realistic, but this shouldn’t stop anyone from striving to achieve their dreams. Sure, you may not become a pop star like you day dreamed about. But if music is a passion it doesn’t mean you can’t have some form of career in it. Perhaps teaching or offering private lessons to share your talent. The same could be said for sports or anything that you have a passion about. It makes working that much more enjoyable.
While it may not get you any financial gain, your health is just as important. Which is why it’s always worth preparing now for the future when it comes to your body.
Taking care of your diet
Your diet is one of the biggest causes of health related issues. If you are eating too many burgers and fatty foods (ahem), then you’re on the path to destruction. These types of diets are linked to people becoming overweight and also struggling with things like diabetes. Of course, we all have to live a little. Some people enjoy the odd glass of wine here and there. Or a cheeky cheeseburger on a weekend. But it’s about having these things in moderation. Incorporating a healthy balanced diet is essential for a healthier lifestyle. Making sure you get all the right nutrients you body needs to function.
When it comes to taking care of your body, then it isn’t just about what you eat. It’s about making sure you exercise your body. This doesn’t mean you need to head to the gym everyday and work up a sweat. That may interest some people, but it isn’t for everyone. This is more about making sure you move each day. Being active is a simple as going out for a walk every morning. Taking the stairs instead of the lift. Conscious decisions that could improve your health on a daily basis.
Thinking about skin care
Our skin is one of the biggest giveaways of our age. So the earlier we start caring for it the better things will be in the future. This could be a simple as having a consistent skin care routine. Making sure you hydrate your skin with a decent moisturiser each day. A great tip to help prevent the signs of aging is to apply sunscreen every day, or a moisturiser that has an inbuilt SPF. It’s the SPF factor that can fight harmful UV rays, which are the things that actually give you the wrinkles and dark spots on your skin.
Keeping your body hydrated
It’s essential for you to keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Not only is it good for your skin and diet. But it can increase energy levels, help you sleep better, and even boost your mood.
Your Mindset and mental health
Finally, taking note of your mindset is vital for future planning. Having a negative approach to life will only make things seem negative for the future. Which isn’t how you want to be thinking about it.
Having a positive mindset
Having a positive mindset isn’t as hard as it seems. It’s more about being conscious of your thought process. Turning something negative into something positive. You can get into a habit of negative thinking, and it’s as simple as breaking the habit to create a new one of positive thinking. Before you know it, you will be thinking much clearer about the future.
Being grateful for all the good things
Finally, it’s hard at first to be grateful for everything that is going well in your life. But taking stock on what life is like in the present can have a huge advantage in the future.
Living in the present but thinking about your future
Life is too short for worrying about things. So make sure you get the balance right of being in the present while contemplating your future. I hope this post inspires you to start preparing your life today.
