Are you a fan of the Mum Bun? Or the classic ponytail? Since having children, my long hair just seems to get in the way and I get sweaty doing anything these days. I have an old favourite hair clip that means I can twist my hair up quickly and easily and it looks acceptable. So, do I chop it all off or get creative with my styling? Maybe you’re in the same dilemma. Let’s dive into it a bit deeper.

If I’m going out or want to look nice, I give my hair a big bouncy blow dry with some trusted tools from mdlondon and wear it down. If I have the time and energy, I curl it and either leave it down or sweep it to the side with my old faithful hair clip.

I love it like that, but I never leave enough time in the morning or have the energy to do it. Since my arm issues I can’t hold my arm up for long enough to hold the curling iron. Sounds pathetic, but it’s true. I’ve toyed with clip in hair extensions before from Lily hair, and they do look good when they’re in, but again it’s a bit of a faff to wear them. I find some hair extensions are heavy on my head and are difficult to get comfortable. When I had them put in by a stylist, they looked great.

If only I could have my own personal hair stylist every day, that would be great. And someone to take the kids to school and generally sort my life out – a girl can dream! My hair at the moment has not had a cut or colour in a while, I love it long but I would like to do something different with it. I’ve had it short and long and everything in between before, and I’m stuck in a style rut. Do I cut it or keep it long?
The pros of cutting hair short
- Low maintenance
- Easy to style
- No more brushing
- Quick to dry after washing
- Use less shampoo and conditioner
- Fewer knots
- Gives more volume
Cons of short hair
- If I change my mind or don’t like it, takes a long time to grow back
- Not much variation
- Probably need to use products to style
- Neck can get cold
- Ears get cold
- Might look like a boy
So there are pros and cons to short hair as you can see, I think I’m still on the fence about short hair, I’ve had a bob style before and I’ve always ended up with shoulder length or longer hair. I was always told that older women over 40 had short hair and I dreaded having to do that. Now I am actually in that age bracket I am rebelling against it, and I still love my long hair to be honest. Does it age me? Who knows and quite frankly, who cares? I think I will stick to my old faithful hair clip and keep being me.

Your hair looks amazing. I believe that change is always a good thing, so I’d vote for a shorter style.
