First of all, allow us to say congratulations. Having a baby is such wonderful news and we bet that you are going to love being a parent. But, even though it’s wonderful, and you’re going to enjoy it so much, it’s a super busy time when you welcome your little one into the world. It’s unavoidable, and you just need to learn how to manage this as effectively as you can. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that will cause this to be a busy time, and what you can do to cope with them. Keep reading if you would like to find out more.
Hormones Are Crazy
The first thing is that your hormones are going to be going crazy. We know that they have been all over the place since you’ve been pregnant, but if it’s possible, it’s worse when you’ve given birth. You feel like you’re all over the place more often than not, and for some reason everything just feels wrong even when it isn’t. Of course, not everyone experiences these feelings, but enough people do to warrant talking about it. If you do end up feeling like this, it’s essential that you speak to a doctor and get some advice before things get worse.
This should settle down a couple of weeks to a couple of months after you’ve given birth. Trust us when we say that you are going to be super glad to start feeling normal again and not wanting to cry because you dropped a potato. Just keep in mind that these feelings are still legitimate even if there is no basis for them. You feel how you feel, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.
No Sleep Is The New Normal
You might as well get used to not sleeping now because that is exactly what it is like when you have a newborn. They have to wake up every couple of hours for food anyway, but then they might not go back to sleep because they want to play or have some kind of entertainment. It’s not easy to keep a baby entertained, especially when there isn’t much that they can do, but it is possible.
We know that you are tired and exhausted, but it’s something that you will adapt to as a parent. Pretty soon, a five minute nap is going to feel refreshing rather than being a source of your irritability. You will learn to do things being so tired, such as the housework and looking after the kid.
The Birth Is Difficult
We know that you probably don’t want to think about this right now, but the birth is more than likely going to be difficult. Some people are super lucky and they go into labor and push the baby out so fast, I wonder how they had time to check them into the hospital. Unfortunately, more often than not, the birth is going to be really difficult, if not traumatic. You are pushing an entire human out of your body, and it’s not an easy thing to do as you know.
Of course, it’s not the best thing in the world, but we would recommend you watch some birthing videos. It will give you an idea of what to expect when the time comes. Luckily, you don’t have to see any of that, but the bad news is that you have to do the actual pushing.
Everything At Home
It’s important that you have everything you need at home for when the baby is allowed out. This is going to include food, clothes, blankets, bottles etc. You are going to need all of this stuff and a lot of them would make fun baby shower gifts, especially if it is cute or funny. This should all be sorted out before you get to your due date, so you don’t need to worry about that once it is all done and sorted.
If you don’t get on top of this, then eventually it is going to get on top of you and that is not what you need. You don’t want to be rushing around trying to set everything up while your baby is attached to you! Make sure everything is done by the time that I get back please so that the baby has somewhere to go and play etc.
If You Have Other Kids
If you have no other kids, then you really don’t know what you are in for. It is a tough process and you are going to need the help of a support system to get you through. The important thing is that you remember you do not have to do this on your own. There are so many people who are willing to help you through this, and navigate the fun life that is parenthood. No, you can’t have any refunds if you don’t like the free trial.
If you have other kids, then you need to prepare them for a new baby coming. You can’t just come home and say ‘look at this baby, it’s your brother or sister.’ Speak to your kids, tell them that mommy is pregnant, explain what that means and then ask if they have any questions. It might be difficult to balance the newborn and your kids at the same time in the beginning, but you will adapt and adjust, and it’s all the better if you’ve got help through this.
Keeping On Top Of Things
Seeing as everything is going to be so busy, you need to be keeping on top of things as much as possible. The things that we are talking about here are the washing up, the washing, the vacuuming, the dusting and so on. If you do this, then you aren’t going to be constantly stressed as there are piles and piles of things that need doing. We know that sometimes it feels impossible to keep on top of things and you just need a break, so give yourself one.
Yes, it is better to stay on top of things where you can, but not at the risk of your mental state. If you need a break, take a break when you can. Don’t stretch yourself thin trying to do everything on your own. You’ve just given birth and brought a new human into the world, the others in the house can help with the basic housework.
Balancing Family
The next thing that we’re going to look at is the fact that you are going to have to balance family. What we mean by this is that your family are likely going to want to see the baby, and so are the parents of the other parent of your child. You need to make sure that they both get on with each other and get to see the kids as often as the other pair. It’s not always easy, especially on holidays such as Christmas because this is when most people want to be together.
Another reason that balancing family can be tricky is because you might feel a little isolated from everyone else right now. If you are on your own, then it’s really easy to get yourself into the mindset that you have to do this on your own and accepting any help is accepting that you are weak, but this isn’t working for you any longer because now you’ve been told it’s okay to need help.
In Case Of Cesarean
Finally, if you do have to have a cesarean, then this is going to be harder on you when you come out of hospital. You have a wound that has just been stitched up right at the bottom of your stomach. When you laugh it moves, when you do anything that involves moving, it hurts. When you want to hug someone but there is nobody there of rme to hug.
It’s important that you remember that healing here is essential. The more you do, the more at risk you are of getting blood clots and what not. Having your family around is going to be invaluable at this time as you can barely do anything for yourself right now. You can’t even pick up the baby without assistance until you are better, but you have to manage. You also need to know the recovery rate and ability to carry again for women who have a cesarean at 17. Remember that you need to be taking it easy during this time, so let those around you spoil you and take care of you for a little while.
We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the reasons why welcoming your baby into the world is going to be such a busy time. You need to do the best you can to move past all of this and enjoy the experience, but this is much easier said than done. We wish you the very best of luck!
