As you already know, becoming a parent is a wonderful experience, but it’s also so exhausting. So much so that time to be intimate with your partner takes a back seat behind the sleepless nights and diaper changes. However, sex is more important than you might think as a new parent! While nobody is expecting either party to be in the mood as soon as your baby is born, you still need to make the effort for that time with your partner, and here’s why.

Emotional intimacy
While many of us think of sex as a physical pleasure, it’s also an amazing opportunity to increase your emotional intimacy. Right now you’re in the midst of the chaos that comes hand in hand with having a new baby, and sex might just be the lifeline you’re looking for.
It’s totally natural for your attention to shift to your baby’s needs, but keeping the emotional bond alive between you and your partner is also important. Making time for sex allows you to remind each other that you’re not just parents, you’re lovers.
Stress relief
Let’s be honest, being a new parent is overwhelming, stressful and tiring. It’s likely that most of the time you’re running on fumes to make sure your baby gets everything they need. Sex is an incredible stress reliever because not only does it feel good in the process, it releases endorphins which make you feel good anyway.
So if you’ve ever found yourself staying awake because before you know it the baby will be awake again, why not use those moments to be intimate and allow yourself to relax (and enjoy) too?
Fun and pleasure
Let’s not forget one of the biggest advantages of sex – the fun and the pleasure that come hand in hand with it too. Making time for sex allows you to try more spontaneity in your relationship and talk about it too. Whether that’s trying suction cup dildos or talking about a sexy outfit to both enjoy is completely up to you. The main point is to have fun!
And, of course, the eye rolling pleasure!
Keeping romance alive
As mentioned a few times already, becoming parents can change the whole dynamic of your relationship. Before your baby you wouldn’t think twice about a weekend away or planning a date night. And, while your baby is your main priority, romance is most definitely still possible.
It doesn’t just have to be sex either; any form of intimacy can help with keeping the romance alive. This could be taking a bath together, or cuddling when the baby is napping! It might not be the same as before, but you’ll both cherish those moments!
Spending quality time together
Finally, it’s hard to find quality time together as new parents. Aside from the feeds and diaper changes there are also Doctor appointments and everyday life to navigate. Finding any time you can to be intimate or spend quality time together is super important for new parents!
