For any business to be a success, whether it is a blog or some other type of venture, it needs to be planned. If you want your blog to make money and become a business, you need to have strategies in place to make this happen. Your blog will not just start making money of its own accord. It is up to you to make it a viable business, and then whether it is a part-time hobby or a full-time profession, you will start to reap the rewards.
Find Your Niche
You first of all have to decide what your blog will be about and focus on that subject. If you want to have a blog about horse riding, for instance, consider what products you will review and if there are people you can interview about it. Could you get some of the products you review free from a supplier and use them as a prize in a contest?
Horse riders would love a free pair of gloves, just as an example, and you could attract many of them by holding a contest on social media where they have to link to your blog as part of entering. You could also mention that the supplier had donated them, and for a free pair of gloves they would get a lot of advertising that has cost them very little. You can approach brands direct, via their PR company or message them on social media.
If you tell your viewers that there will be a new post on your blog every other day ensure that it happens or they will lose trust in you. When you know that you have to write an article, make a video or take some photos of the latest baby gear, if that is your chosen niche, be organised enough to have it ready to post as and when you should. Be realistic and commit to what you can achieve. If you have a newborn and a toddler once a week may be better!
There is more to running a blog like a business than the content. You also need to be organised about your records and everything else to do with business. If you are not you could lose out if you are not paid for something when you should be. Without your records being in good order you might not realise this has occurred and could lose out financially.
In fact, a business administration bachelor degree could be the answer for you to learn all about running a business in the correct way. As these courses are mainly available online, you can study for them while still doing your blog.
Brand Your Blog
Many thousands of blogs are started every year and many of them fail. This is because they do not stand out from the rest and you need to create a brand so that your blog is something special. Have your own domain name as that instils more confidence than a generic one, and a logo that is unique and is shown on everything you do.
The most successful blogs are often the simplest ones, but because people trust the blogger, they build a following and are able to monetise their site.
Some people think blogging for a living is easy, but in reality, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. If you are prepared to spend the time and effort needed though, you could make your blog a business quite easily.
