An Introvert’s Dream…

What's your perfect night in? If you're an extroverted introvert like me, there's only one thing that will do it...

I am what’s known as an extroverted introvert. Confused? This article sums it up perfectly, except point 13, I am flirtatious. It basically means I like spending time at home, and only go out when I have to. TV was made for people like me and, well, basically everybody. The way we watch TV has changed completely from when I was a child and we had 4 channels and no remote (yes I’m that old), to now having multiple series to watch on demand, pausing live TV – the stuff of magic! I’m afraid I love having the TV on and if we’re in the house, it’s on, it’s become a habit and I like the background noise and the feeling that you have company, even when you’re alone. Human company without having to be directly involved – an introvert’s dream. Throw in social media, the perfect outlet for me. I can be heard, chip in when I want to with no pressure yet still be at home. I like to be comfy, I don’t like standing in pubs, or sitting on uncomfortable backless chairs talking small talk. I like to know I can go to bed when I want, leave somewhere when I want. Ordering a takeaway via an app so I don’t have to talk to a real person was a game changer for me.

My perfect evening is a night in with or without my husband (without means I have total control over the remote, as opposed to 80% control), with a takeaway that I’ve ordered via an app so I don’t have to talk to a real person. The kids will be in bed without argument early/on time and actually asleep. I’ll have access to coke zero and white wine. Now I have a young family, they tend to monopolise the TV; we are lucky and have another in the playroom, I naively thought they would watch this one and I’d have the other one, but this has now become an XBox TV. We have a small one upstairs in our bedroom too, I like to fall asleep watching TV – I told you I was an addict. I can’t escape though, because of course the little people come and find me. Their favourites are good old CBeebies, Max and Ruby and Lego Ninjago on Netflix, and for films, Monsters Inc and Aristocats – the classics! I do get my time of course, and sometimes I insist. I like to keep up to date with the news and current affairs, documentaries and I’m a sucker for reality shows like Strictly, The Bake off (it was a dream when I got to bake with Ian from the 2015 series) and The X Factor. A good foodie show is always worth a watch, I really miss those lazy Saturdays watching Saturday Kitchen; now I have early morning kids TV followed by Ballet lessons and housework. I don’t watch any soaps any more, they’re too depressing.

I love to find new box sets to watch – we went retro earlier this year and watched the entire series of Star Trek: Deep Space 9, then we started watching Orange is the New Black, I’ve now become obsessed with it. I think our TV is pretty good, we watch in HD, but there’s always a new level coming out. My next dream TV is going to be a Panasonic 4K TV, possibly with 3D. We have a 48 inch at the moment, I think we could go bigger – does size matter?

What is 4K TV?

In basic terms, this is a TV with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, more than 8 million pixels in total, which is 4 times the number of that in full HD. The 4K experience allows you to get as close as you like to the screen without compromising on quality. It provides the ultimate home cinematic experience, featuring a professional cinema display for outstanding colour, clarity and brightness.

I’m drooling over them at the moment. When we sort out our extension and the children are that bit older, our little playroom/dining room will be more of a games and home cinema room, with our dream TV. We may even install a VPN. Pass the popcorn!
