As part of my Blogger Board Game club I receive different games to try out each month for one year. These two games are my latest additions.
Exploding Kittens is a card game designed for 2-5 players of age 7 and up. It is described as
A card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams… and sometimes goats.
Sounds about right for us! It’s simple to play and didn’t take me long to suss out the rules of play and to explain it to the kids. You each get 7 cards at random plus one allocated defuse card so you don’t die straight away. If you draw an exploding kitten you are out of the game – unless you have a defuse card or something to move, mitigate or avoid the exploding kitten. The cards have funny cartoons and descriptions on, making it a fun way to interact and play as a family. A thumbs up from us.
You vary the amount of exploding kittens and defuse cards according to the number of players you have. The box is small and easy to store.
A more involved game for anyone aged 7 and up, this game revolves around a story. A group of stuffed toys are sworn to protect the little girl that loves them, but they have been drawn into the Fall, an otherworldly fantastic realm ruled by a brooding master of nightmares. It’s something a bit different to play together and really get involved, I’m saving a proper go at it for our summer holiday, for those evenings together. All the action takes place in the unique storybook, that acts as your rules reference, story guide and game board all in one. There is a warning when you open the box (which feels magical in itself) not to shuffle or disrupt the discovery deck of cards. If you’re looking for a role play game crossed with a choose your own adventure book, this is it. There are real character pieces, coloured dice and tokens that enhance the play.
If you’re interested in buying either of these games, here’s the links for you, just click on the images below.
