Usually, bloggers launch into this space as a hobby. After some time, what started as a side passion transforms into a solid niche and viable money-making business. Perhaps out of over-excitement, most new bloggers commit certain mistakes with the potential to throw all their hard work down the drain. Moreover, with a monthly average of 10,000 visitors to the most successful blogs, you cannot afford to overlook these errors. Here are some common ones to be mindful of.

  1. Blogging inconsistently

The main reason behind frequent posting on your blog is to remain connected with your readers and to get them waiting for more. Maintaining this frequency puts you in the minds of readers and keeps interest generation at an all-time high. Unfortunately, new bloggers tend to fail in this aspect because of the erroneous perception that readers will not detect long-time gaps in postings. Understandably, it may become hectic to post new articles frequently, especially when blogging is a side hustle and you’ve got a day job. In that case, setting a posting schedule can create order and help you make time to research and develop engaging topics for new articles.

There is the possibility that not many people are reading your blog. This is likely because it’s new and yet to catch on with your target audience. However, that is not enough reason to rest on your oars. No matter how small your readers are currently, there is great potential to attract more people to your blog and expand your base. Every week, strive to put up about four different posts to generate discussions among your readers.

  1. Poor maintenance of your electronic blogging tools

Most bloggers use tablets, cameras, desktop or laptop computers, etc., for blogging activities. Because these electronic gadgets are high-performance tools, and they require constant attention to maintain functions at optimal levels. However, their efficiency depends mainly on your maintenance habits. If you fail to protect your computer with excellent antivirus software, you risk losing your digital files. Additionally, you are responsible for keeping an eye on your computer storage, mainly if you use a Mac. Because your device contains volumes of digital files, it is helpful to consider more reliable storage alternatives.

  1. A blog name without growth prospects

The name you give to your blog can make or unmake all the difference. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, new bloggers come up with fancy labels for their sites, only to realise in the long run that the blog has outrun its name. For this reason, it’s worth factoring in the future when thinking of a suitable name that will grow with the brand. Indeed, there is always the opportunity to change the blog name at some point. However, that will mean getting your readers to identify with a new label, which isn’t always easy.

  1. Failing to get self-hosted

There are a few benefits to using a free hosting account. However, it is always better to have a self-hosted platform. Moreover, the latter provides more features you can use to develop your blogging site. It is worth knowing that a free hosting account may result in your readers not considering you as a professional blogger.

  1. Over-reliance on SEO

This may come as a surprise, but you will know why this is highlighted as a mistake new bloggers often make. Everyone seems to be talking about the ‘magical’ effect search engine optimisation has on blogs, but there is more. Over-focusing on SEO means you risk unconsciously ignoring the importance of quality article content. In other words, your blog’s positive user experience takes a hit due to your concentration on maximising keywords usage only.

In this competitive blogging era, quality articles are more likely to be shared on broader platforms. It is a balancing act you can try mastering when you enter the blogging world. There is a world of information that new bloggers can make use of to achieve success.
