I know, how can you review a dining set? It serves the food, right? Yes, but it does also have some other unique features that other crockery sets don’t have. Read on to find out more and take a look at the pictures.
I was asked to choose a 16 piece dining set from the range at World Kitchen, called Corelle. They have lots of different styles to choose from, including plain white and some more colourful designs. I went for the grey and white design called Modena.
In the 16 piece set you get 4 mugs, 4 dinner plates, 4 side plates and 4 bowls. The bowls are white with grey piped edging, and the mugs are plain grey.
The unique features of the Corelle dining sets
What sets them apart is that they are made from a unique material called Vitrelle, a type of glass that is layered together to make the crockery extremely durable. This is a must for families, especially if they are like mine and tend to drop things (and I’m not just talking about the children, I am very clumsy). This material makes it a lightweight dinnerware that resists breaking, cracking, chipping, scratching and permanent staining.
The plates and bowls are also thinner than china plates and stack better, so you can fit more in the cupboard! I do like the way they stack, you can tell the difference in this photo, all four plates take up way less space than standard plates and the same for the bowls:
The non-porous glass surface doesn’t retain food odours and particles, doesn’t stain and is easy to wash. I’ve tested them in the dishwasher several times now, and used them in the microwave with no problems.
The side plates are a little smaller than a standard sandwich plate, so we use them for smaller items and side plates rather than breakfast or sandwiches. The dinner plates are a good size and the bowls are perfect for cereal.
