This week, all non-essential shops across the country were allowed to re-open and begin trading again after nearly three months of being shut due to the ongoing pandemic crisis. As a business owner, the idea of being able to re-open your store once again is undoubtedly a joyous one; finally you can begin trading again and start to breathe new life back into the business that you put your heart and soul into building.
However, a common misconception that you don’t want to make is assuming that life will, more or less, return to normal and that you can expat the same level of success in the current economic climate. Because the fact is that the world we are living in today is very different to the world that was shut down three months ago, and in order for your business to survive you need to understand the shift that this brings to consumer behaviour.
Bearing this shift in mind, and current economic climate, you are most probably wondering what steps you should consider taking to help put your business in the best position possible for success as we continue to move out of lockdown and into a new, unexpected future.

To help you to ensure that your business has the best chance of post-pandemic success, below are a few ideas and considerations to take note of.
Understand changing customer attitudes and behaviours
As a business owner, if you want to see success you need to consider what has changed in regards to customer attitudes and behaviours. Ask yourself what you would want to see in a shop post-pandemic – what changes would you like to see being implemented? New research has shown that the factor most consumers are concerned about is hygiene, with many people becoming hyper aware of the need for effective hygiene practices being put in place.
Focus on curb appeal
If you are going to encourage potential customers to be willing to queue for your store, you need to ensure that your curb appeal is on point. This means thinking carefully about your store-side marketing, such as banners and signs, as well as about your windows displays and what each display says about your store’s offering. If you lack confidence when it comes to this aspect of your shop’s presentation, it might be worth looking into working with visual merchandising experts to ensure that your store is as appealing as possible. It’s all well and good opening your shop, but if you aren’t getting any customers in, then it’s pointless.
Put the right practices in place
It’s important to note that a lot of people don’t like the idea of being too close to others, so ensuring that your store implements strict social distancing guidelines is crucial to your success. Otherwise, you may lose customers as a result.
As mentioned above, for many people hygiene has become a priority, which is why it’s so important to ensure that you have strict hygiene practices in place. This should include having hand sanitiser at the entrance of your store, requesting everyone uses it before entering. It should also include sanitising products that have been touched by customers. You need to think carefully about the strategy that you will implement.
There you have it, a few useful tips and ideas for making re-opening your store and seeing success, somewhat easier.
