So that you can rank higher in google searches, you first need to verify your website and claim ownership. This is easy to do, but it will require you inputting some code into the head section of your website. This is only for self hosted blogs. This article will take you through how to verify ownership of your website in the Google search console.

First, go to the Google search console and click the ‘start now’ button. This takes you to a screen like this:

Enter your URL into the URL prefix box and click continue. Find the HTML tag and click the expand toggle next to it. Keep the window open. Copy and paste this code into your website’s head tag. If you’re not sure how to do this, I have used the insert header and footers plugin which makes it really easy.

Once inserted, go back and click verify in the google search console box. You will get an email from Google search console once your site has been verified. You can then submit your sitemap to the console, and see what people are searching for to land on your website, which gives you valuable information to rank even higher.
