This past week has been a busy one at work, you ladies will insist on having babies! I’ve seen lots of returning clients having their second or more babies, it’s nice to see people coming back although it makes me realise how fast time flies when I see their ‘newborn’ stroll in as a toddler! During my working day hand hygiene plays an important role in infection prevention and control both by washing my hands and using the alcohol hand rub. These two methods are very effective but it does leave my poor hands rather dry. I have been given the opportunity to try out Comvita’s Medihoney dry skin cream with Manuka Honey from their Medihoney natural skincare range.

When I was working full time I often had dry scaly patches on the back of my hands from wearing gloves and hand washing a lot. I prefer to use natural products without chemicals where possible, especially for the children, and this moisturiser is certified natural by the Natural Products Association™ (NPA). It is also free from parabens, fragrance, SLS and petrolatum. It has been dermatologically tested and is suitable for the most sensitive skin, providing a gentle solution for babies and children with eczema. The Mums testimonials on the Medihoney website say it all as they describe their heartfelt journeys. The cream combines oat extract, aloe vera, chamomile and plant butters with the Manuka Honey to produce a moisturiser that helps calm itchiness, soothe and rehydrate dry and itchy skin. The Medihoney pulls in water from the lower layers of skin and locks it in for lasting skin moisture. It is suitable for very dry and eczema prone skin and can be used on babies from 3 months. Baby D is getting patches of eczema on his face from the cold weather and dribbling and wearing bibs, I’ve been using it on him with some great results. It has no added fragrance but has a subtle honey smell so he smells even more delicious than usual! I also used it on my eldest son who gets dry skin patches in the winter and had no complaints.
The cream itself is thick and you only need a small amount to rehydrate the skin, it can be reapplied three times daily or as required. It feels like it’s doing the job and absorbs well after the initial application.
Available since 1999, there is over 14 years of research and safety data including over 130 case studies, laboratory studies and randomised controlled trials, supporting Medihoney® wound care products.”
From the Comvita website.
I know lots of people who eat Manuka Honey for it’s healthy properties, I’d also heard of honey used on wounds before; this cream harnesses the properties of this super honey for you and your family’s skin. You can get some for yourself from Comvita’s website, at the time of going to press they have free shipping to the UK and Ireland for orders over £20. That sounds like a great product and perfect for easing dry sky. My youngest had quite dry skin last winter – will have to bear this product in mind if it comes back again this year.

May 29, 2017 at 10:59 pmHoney is a delicious, healthier alternative to sugar. And it’s especially great when you get freshly made honey from the beekeeper itself.
