Money, Money, Money, Isn’t Funny When You Reach THIS Stage In Your Blogging Venture

When you started blogging, you probably wanted to do everything alone so you could finally enjoy a bit of freedom. Only, then, something wonderful happened – your blog started to grow. Suddenly, what was once a trickle of tasks like accounting concerns became an onslaught. It’s great news, but it also means that you’re going to have to start delegating if you want to keep up with that growth.

Obviously, you’ll want to keep content creation, etc. close to home. But, to do that, you need to understand what you can delegate, and accounting is at the top of that list. After all, this is far from your area of expertise. Outsourcing your accounting services, however, can see expert teams handling money matters for you with the help of practice management software for accountants and an improved understanding of the laws, stipulations, and expectations on your blogging finances after all. The question is, when exactly can you tell whether this expense will be worth your while?

You’ve got multiple streams of income

If your income is coming from one sole outlet such as advertising, then not only should it be easy enough to manage alone, but you’re also unlikely to be earning enough to justify the expense of an accountant. If, however, your income starts to stem from multiple sources that each pay different rates at different times (e.g. brand collabs, PPC campaigns, social media mentions, etc.) then things can quickly get more complicated. In this latter instance, keeping on top of all your finances is especially reliant on expert financial handling, and the software necessary to make that possible.

You’re starting to pay other people

Even if you aren’t directly employing anyone to work on your blog (which could still become a requirement down the line), you may find that you need to start paying for things like mentions in the right places, contributed articles from freelancers, and so on. Even this basic form of often one-off payment can be confusing to manage alone and requires an understanding of what your legal standing is in each case, and what paperwork you need to provide alongside payments (both internally and externally) to ensure that you’re always operating by the book. Which, incidentally, is a benefit you’re only really going to get with the help of a team of experienced accountants.

You’re losing your life-work balance

While increasing expectations on your blogging business may be less of an obvious cause to bring accountants onboard, they’re also worth considering. After all, you pursued this career to improve your work-life balance, quite possibly for the sake of your family. Having to stay up late to complete admin tasks like accounting can ruin that, and it’s something that, alone, is a sign your workload has reached the point where outside help would be a welcome benefit.

Outsourcing anything in your personal blogging business can be tough, but behind-the-scenes accounting is almost always best handled by the experts as soon as warning signs like these let you know that you’re ready.
