I have two boys and one girl. They all have access to traditional boys and girls toys. My youngest likes to push a pink hello kitty pushchair around but his absolute favourite toys are cars and trains in all forms. Some boats and planes but mainly cars and trains. He was thrilled when we got a big box in the post that contained the Monster Smash Ups bright yellow car with remote control. It didn’t stay in the box for long, with my 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl all chomping at the bit to get it out.
Before you can get started you need 2 x AA batteries (not included) for the remote control and you will need to charge up the car for about 90 minutes, so if you’re getting it for Christmas do this before the big day! The remote control has a power tank that shows you when to recharge. It comes with a plug and lead for the car to recharge and you can charge via USB. There are stickers to personalise your car and action man figure and then you’re good to go driving.
You also get some cones and two start/ finish flags to enhance the experience. The remote control has a left-right and forwards-backwards control, together with a button you press to start that makes an ignition key sound. The car makes a beep-beep sound like when you lock a posh car and there are other sound effects. The fun part is when you start driving, the car has springs that make it move in a non static way, it lurches from side to side in a realistic way, and if you drive it into something it will break bits off or come totally apart if it’s hard enough, then you rebuild it again! We discovered that if you drove it down our garden steps the man ejects in superb stunt fashion!
We’ve had great fun trying out the Monster smash ups car, it’s available on Amazon or Argos via the link below and would make an impressive gift. It retails at around £34.99.
Disclosure: we were gifted the car for the purposes of this review. All opinions are my own.
