When you have kids (and the busy, busy life that comes with them) it’s easy to let some of your past relationships fade into the distance. People live different lives, have different priorities, and the speed they run at changes as time goes on. It’s easy to find yourself becoming a little more introverted. That doesn’t have to mean you have no friends. Here are some of the solo hobbies you could easily use to make more friends.

Getting fit
Not only is it easy to find friends to get fit with, it’s significantly easier to work out if you have some company. Not only can the presence of a friend help keep you a bit better motivated on the treadmill. If you aim together to compete in races and marathons, a bit of friendly rivalry can keep things interesting. Next time you work out or find a class, invite someone you know to join you.
Reading
If you’re also the kind of person to be buried under a mound of books, then there are few better excuses to get everyone around having a cup of tea (or something slightly stronger). Book clubs offer not only the opportunity to keep reading and finding new content. They help you explore what you read and how you think about what you read. They’re not all that difficult to start, either. Whether it’s calling a friend or starting an online listing, there are a lot of people looking for book clubs.
Gardening
For the green-thumbed amongst you, no longer does gardening have to be something done behind the high hedges and fences of your own home. Come up with some allotment ideas and start growing your own produce. Garden centres give you the perfect opportunity to meet others who have a fondness for the same feelings of zen and accomplishment that comes with gardening.
Cooking
If you like using ingredients as much as cooking them, then finding ways to expand your skills is always rewarding. But cooking classes are also great opportunities to spot other foodies. No longer will you have to feel red-faced about going to a restaurant alone. Plus, there are plenty of perks in having friends who like to cook delicious treats. Just make sure you return the favour from time to time, yourself.
Animals
Animals aren’t a hobby, no, but the love of animals can be a big part of your life. When you’re walking your dog, it’s easy to find yourself stopped by all kinds of other dog walkers for conversations on the little beasts. But if you want to meet people who truly love animals, you might want to think about volunteering with them. Not only can you meet people who have a good sense of social responsibility, but you can make a real difference.
Nowadays, no solo hobby has to stay strictly solo. You shouldn’t neglect the online world if you want to make friends no matter what your hobby. Nowadays, people are connecting over just about anything. Nothing has to be a ‘solo’ hobby anymore.
