Spring is coming!

Most of us are now transitioning from the ‘Winter is coming’ phase and moving over to welcome the beautiful spring season into our lives. And if there is one thing we know about spring – it’s spring cleaning time!

Without proper planning, you will end up cleaning as you go. The method might work, but it’s not very productive. When it comes to spring cleaning your house, you need to think and act like a pro.

Here are a few tips that will really help you spring clean your house in the most efficient manner possible!

1. Make a plan

Many people often say that a good job includes 80% planning and 20% execution. If that is the case, then the very first thing you need to do is get to the planning stage. Get a pen and paper out and start making a list of all the rooms in your home which you want to clean.

Once you have done that, list out all the cleaning tools and products you need for this job. Make sure you have all your supplies at hand before you begin. How awful would it be to put your spring cleaning on hold just because you ran out of paper towels, right?

2. Get the right cleaning products

Each surface, fabric, and corner of your home requires cleaning. But more importantly, each of those requires a different kind of cleaning product. Start getting all your cleaning products in one place and label them according to what you need them for. You can create a thick mixture of commercial cleaning products and organic cleaning products which you make yourself at home.

For example, you can always buy a tile cleaner for your shower. However, you can also make one easily at home by using simple products like white vinegar, baking soda, some essential oils, etc.

Choose your cleaning products well before you begin this task.

3. Schedule a time

Spring cleaning takes more than a day. Schedule a particular time every day when you want to target an area or a room in your home. Have all your cleaning products ready and begin your cleaning adventure at the same time every day.

If you target your bathroom on the first day, then don’t think about completing the entire task in one day. Instead, break it down into smaller tasks.

Apply your cleaning product on your toilet, sink, shower, and tub. Now, let the products sit for a while. Otherwise, they will not work as effectively. During this waiting period, you can either take up some other task or sit back and relax!

4. Create a running list of areas which are easy to overlook

Unless you are a professional cleaner, it is understandable that you might miss out on a few areas while cleaning your home. To do an efficient job, you should make a list of these places which are easy to forget about. Tick them off your list one by one as you clean. This method ensures that you clean every nook and corner of your home efficiently. Not just that, it is also extremely satisfying to tick things off your list!

Some of the easy to forget areas in your home include:

  • Inside the refrigerator, oven, microwave, cabinets, etc.
  • Behind larger items like the washing machine, couches, TV
  • Books and bookshelves
  • Light fixtures
  • Under the legs of the bed

While these are just a few, there are plenty of others that you should list down in your ‘Spring Cleaning List.’

5. Clean the ceilings and walls

While this might seem like a distinct task, it is also one of the hardest ones to do. Cleaning your walls and ceilings is an enormous task, but it is something you need to do anyway. Again, start by targeting one room at a time, using one cleaning product at a time. Use vacuum cleaners and brooms to remove cobwebs, dust, allergens, and even mites.

Then, target the light fixtures in each room as well. You will find a lot of hidden dirt, grime, and even bugs hiding behind there. Cleaning all the fixtures at one go is not efficient, so break it down and do one at a time, till you complete all of them to your satisfaction.

6. Finish your floors

If you have wooden floors at home, then this is a must. However, you can do this for all other kinds of floors as well.

The first thing you want to do is to remove all the furniture from your room. You might need a helping hand to do this. Get help from your family, or hire a professional to help you with this task.

Take your vacuum cleaner and try to hit every single corner. A good wet-dry vacuum cleaner can do wonders for your floors. If you moved the furniture, this step will be much easier.

Apply a cleaning solution to your floors and thoroughly deep clean your floors. They really need it!

After this, apply a sealant or a polishing wax to protect your floors and also make them look shiny and new.

Make sure you only do one room at a time so that you don’t restrict movement in your home while the sealant or polish is drying.

7. Clean all your doormats

Since these little guys usually sit outside your homes, it can be easy to forget about them.

This spring cleaning, take a good look at your doormats and consider changing them with new ones. If you think your old mats still have some life in them, then give them an excellent deep cleaning session.

8. Clean the outside of your home

Finally, you can end your spring cleaning adventure by thoroughly cleaning the outside of your home. This includes your patio, your doors, and doorways, any outdoor furniture, your garage, garden, etc.

Once you complete this excellent spring cleaning task (which will no doubt thoroughly exhaust you!), you will finally have a clean and healthy home.

There is nothing like coming back to a clean home every night. Get overwhelm yourself. Follow the list through step by step, and you will have yourself a great looking and smelling home by springtime!
