Sharing is caring!

Mother’s Day is one day every year that all mothers of all types are celebrated. Whether it’s a mother who’s passed away that you’ve lost or it’s a mother who’s now in her senior years, mothers are to be recognised and celebrated just one day a year, because largely, we feel invisible. Mothers are the memory makers, They are the memories, they’re the calendars. They’re the doers. They’re the bakers, the cooks, the security guards. They’re your best friend, and they can be your worst enemy in the wrong situation.

But mothers are always there, and they are always with you, even if they don’t agree with your choices, and even when they do agree with the choices. Making sure that you show your mother that you love her from time to time is never a bad idea. Mother’s Day flowers are the very least that you can do this year to make sure that your mother knows that she is loved? Let’s take a look at 10 other things that you can do to make sure she knows that you are recognising her effort and the amount of work she puts into making sure that you are happy, safe and healthy no matter how old you are.

  1. Write her a letter. Do you know what mother’s value more than anything else? Ever take the time to reflect on the things that she’s done for you and the impact that she really has had on your heart and your life? Write down your thoughts, your feelings, the funny anecdotes and the memories that you have brought to the forefront. Do you remember those Friday night dinners where all you’d have is toast or pizza that she’d ordered? Well, those are the days where she was just so exhausted and the guilt would have consumed her that she didn’t give you a balanced meal. Remember those days as some of the best days because you got to do something different and sit with your mum.
  2. Cook for her. How many meals has your mother made for you over the years? How many times has she adjusted her recipes to make sure that she didn’t include the onions you don’t like? Or how many times has she blended down the sauces so that there’s no lumps and you don’t have any surprises with your food? The likelihood is that she’s cooked thousands of meals throughout your life. So how about cooking back her favourite one for her? She’ll appreciate the effort you put into making her feel special, but she’ll also appreciate the effort that you put into cooking something that’s her favourite.
  3. Plan a surprise trip. Organise a time to pick her up, make sure you speak to her boss to book time off work and take her away. Whether it’s the local park where the picnic basket is in one hand or you’ve booked tickets to Vegas and you’re treating her to a first class experience, book a trip and make sure it’s a surprise.
  4. Make the gift you give her a thoughtful one. Gifts never have to be valuable in terms of money when you want them to be meaningful. Think about her hobbies and her interests, or think about her favourite birthstone or jewellery piece that she loves, then buy a gift that shows that you know her. Mothers often feel invisible, and you will make her seem just with that gesture.
  5. Take over for the day. Telling your mom that she is to sit down and put her feet up while you clean the house is one of the best gifts that you could give her on Mother’s Day. It’s a day for mothers to recognise who they are, but it’s also a day to look around at all the work that she puts into making sure that you live in a nice environment. Even if you don’t live with your mum. Go to her house and take over for the day. Clean her home, do her grocery shopping, maybe even pay a bill and she’s struggling.

  1. Make a plan for quality time. Work and your social life both keep you busy, so make sure that you put some time aside for your mum. Take her for a walk, go and feed the ducks, or watch a movie together. Treat her to a cinematic experience if necessary. It’s a good opportunity for you to make some more memories with her, because don’t forget the memories that you had with her as a child are a very different situation when you’re an adult.
  2. Tell her what she means to you. Expressing your gratitude to your mother is a great way to make sure that you show her you love her this Mother’s Day. Express your gratitude face to face, hold her hand, and just give her a simple thank you for everything that she’s doing. Mothers never expect to thank you, nor do they want gratitude. But it’s always nice to show it anyway.
  3. What about a pampering session? You do not have to paint your mother’s nails if you don’t want to, but booking her in for a spa day and getting her nails done, it’s going to be something she really appreciates. Pampering her and making her feel like she is the queen of the castle for the day is going to really help to secure that bond that you have.
  4. Give her a photo book. Putting together some of your favourite memories from when you were a child and from growing up is really going to bring a tear to her eye. The sentimental value of the album is one thing, but the memories you can treasure for the years to come is completely another. There are family vacations, holidays, and birthdays, as well as the annual traditions that you may have upheld as a family. Make sure that you include as many pictures of you. With your mother as possible.
  5. Tell her you love her. These little 3 little words are such a simple gesture, but it definitely shows your mother you love her this Mother’s Day.
