Cleaning is one of the main household chores and the one that’s often put off by homeowners because “it takes time”. And the reason why it takes so long for people to clean their home is: Lack of strategy.

That’s right. Just like anything else, cleaning requires a certain amount of strategy and skill to be done right.

Sure, you can randomly pick one area for cleaning and move to the other. You might not spare much thought to whether you should vacuum first and then mop, or the other way around. Or, you might stack your clothes in your closet without planning first. But all you’re actually doing is making it harder for yourself.

If quick and efficient cleaning is what you wish to accomplish day after day, then keep reading. We’ve got some handy tips that professional house cleaners use to keep homes in tip-top shape.

1. Start with de-cluttering

There is nothing more frustrating than having things get in your way when you’re trying to clean. That’s why de-cluttering should your first step before you even begin to think about cleaning. If you have a lot of clutter and rubbish to get rid of, think about rubbish clearance services, they can really help you out. Keeping things where they belong right after using them is a great way to ensure you never pile up on clutter that will take you hours to put away.

2. Clear off the surfaces

In most families, things gets dumped on table tops, on the top of the fridge, on the seat of the chairs, and on all kinds of surfaces around the house. Picking each item, cleaning under it, and putting it down can seem like forever. Which is why areas with a lot of knick-knacks don’t get cleaned properly.

To avoid this, get into the habit of clearing everything off the surfaces before you clean them. Then, dust and wipe the surfaces. Next, using a microfiber cloth dust each item and put it back.

3. Get the easy bits done first

The logic is simple: When you first tackle the easy-to-clean areas and tasks that you can finish quickly, you’ll fall into the groove and find it easier to accomplish the bigger clean-ups in high traffic areas such as bathrooms and kitchen.

4. Go from top to bottom

Top to bottom and back to front are general rules of thumb when cleaning a room. It means you begin by shaking dust and debris off the items placed at a height and work your way down to the floor. That way, you won’t have to worry about the dust and dander messing up the floor as long as you have a good vacuum cleaner to suck it all in.

5.  Give the cleaning products time to work

Most cleaning products need a few minutes to start doing what they are meant to do. So, give them the time to break down oil/grime and kill germs, meaning you’ll have to use less elbow grease. In the meanwhile, you can finish any other task.

6. Have the right tools

You don’t need to own every cleaning tool in existence to get a home that looks and feels professionally cleaned. Except for a few essentials such as clean sponges, a mop, a couple of squeegees, microfiber cloths, a duster, and a vacuum (preferably with high suction capacity), there isn’t a tool that you should invest on.

7. Have the right cleaning products

Make sure to have a few but effective cleaning products. Swap special, single task products such as glass cleaners with general, all-purpose cleaners that can lift dirt and grease from nearly every surface.

8. Clean as you go

While this advice isn’t from the professional cleaner’s book as they typically deal with tough cleaning tasks or routine clean-ups, it’s a practical tip that will save you a lot of time, headache, and muscle work when it’s actually the time to clean. Doing things like using a squeegee on your shower tiles after every bath and giving the stovetop and kitchen counter a quick wipe with some vinegar water solution after every use will make it that much easier for you to clean these areas.

With these tips from Sydney house cleaning professionals, we’re hoping you can turn house cleaning into a fast, efficient, and less-daunting affair.
