If you’ve got young children, you’ve probably seen their ads on Facebook – Toucan boxes are monthly craft subscription boxes that contain all you need for a craft project to do together. My main concern, as always was the mess and how long, how difficult would it be for my 6 year old to follow. When you sign up to Toucan box you input your child’s details so it’s personalised to them. The recommended age is for 3-8 year olds. When it arrives it’s personalised to your child, which is a nice touch, it was a bit smaller than I thought, it’s about letter box sized. I was also rather glad it wasn’t too involved!

Firstly, it’s not just the craft project that’s in the box, you get information linked to the craft and a booklet. There’s also a chart to collect tokens which you can redeem for free gifts. It’s quite a good loyalty scheme and Phoebe likes it.

She decided to tackle making the jellyfish first, I was pleased to note there was no glue or glitter involved, everything is sticky and threading. She managed to follow the instructions with a little help from me and was very pleased with the result. I helped her use the scissors. She’s feeling a little camera shy at the moment so William helped out in showing what we made.

The other activity box contained a dinosaur tail to decorate. Phoebe’s topic in school is Dinosaurs, so she enjoyed the activity. It was more sticking stickers on a fabric tail than a detailed craft activity, but it did involve cutting out foam shapes, and then you get to wear the tail afterwards, plus there was a mask to cut out to encourage imaginative play.

In the box itself you can use it as a frame and to keep all the bits in.

You can get a free box to try out at the moment, if you use code AWINSPRING at the checkout on the Toucan box website. It’s normally £5.95 per box, which includes postage. If you aren’t convinced that toucanBox is for you after you get your free box, there is no commitment. Just pause or cancel your subscription from your online account.
