As you’re busy getting ready for summer, you’re probably also gearing up for your family’s summer holiday! Spending time away together can be fun for everyone. However, if you have small children, you will probably already know how stressful it can be. Travelling with kids can turn into an absolute nightmare! However, there are some useful tips you should know to help make things easier for everyone. Read on to find out more!
Keep Organised when you travel
If you’ve planned everything carefully, then you have one less thing to worry about. Make sure you have everyone’s passport and all the booking confirmations together in a safe place. It is also a good idea to pack at least a week in advance, so you don’t forget anything. If you are well organised, you will be able to relax a bit more and not worry about travel arrangements. This will give you a lot more time to take care of your kids and entertain them.

Check Your Car before the journey
If you are travelling by car, make sure it is in perfect working order. You should do this whether you are going on a long road trip or just driving to the airport. You and your partner will only be annoyed if it breaks down and your bad moods could spread to your kids. It could also cause a long delay in your journey, which can bore the kids senseless. Make sure you have plenty of books and travel games in the car to keep everyone happy.
Sign Up To Kids Clubs
If you are travelling to a family friendly resort or park, there will be lots of different activities you and your family can take part in. There will also be kids clubs that put on special entertainment just for kids. Children of all ages will have various things they can take part in. It’s a good idea to sign up your kids for these fun activities. Not only does it give you and your partner a break from childcare and time to relax, but your kids will enjoy meeting and playing with other children staying at the resort. Dog friendly caravan parks are also popular with families who want to travel with their pet.

Remember to take Snacks
Keep a snack in your handbag at all times! Kids will often complain about being hungry when they are out and about. So prepare for their moaning by carrying a healthy snack around with you all the time. This could be especially useful if you decide to go out for a family hike or bike ride. Not only can you keep the snacks healthy, but it will help you keep costs down. Buying food all the time could eat into your holiday budget. Don’t forget to always carry a bottle of water with you at all times, especially if you are in a hot, sunny country.
Busy Bags
Get some busy bags ready for each child to keep them amused for the journey. A mixture of favourite toys, a new activity and a sweet or snack will keep them amused for a while – at least until they need to pee!
Travelling with children doesn’t have to turn into a nightmare for anyone. You’ll be amazed how fun you can make it! What are your tips?

I travel regularly with 4 children on my own and these are great tips. Also remember that most international airports will have a children’s area. Gatwick North and South both have a soft play area. Try to get the kids very tired before they get on the plane!! Once the excitement of the plane wears off they will go to sleep (with any luck). If they don’t go to sleep, please pack earphones for tablets etc. People are very patient when it comes to screaming children on a flight, but certainly less so about Angry Birds or films being played very loudly.
