It’s currently half term, which is usually when I take stock of uniform, make sure it is all washed and ready to go again. I look at everything including PE kits and shoes to see if it all fits and is in a basic state of repair! I’m usually a fan of cheap and cheerful uniforms, especially when you have multiple children to clothe for school, but sometimes the more you spend the more you save in the long run. Cheaper clothes don’t wash as well and wear out quicker. This post is a review of Trutex schoolwear which sits slightly higher than the supermarket prices, but I feel it does have better quality all around. I chose jumpers and polo shirts for Daniel, he pretty much needs a clean jumper every day because he spills stuff on it or pen marks. For Phoebe, she needed new skirts, her older ones were getting shorter and shorter, plus a new cardigan. She’s forever leaving them behind or stuffing them in her bag.
With Trutex you can order securely online in whatever your colour or style. You can also get branded schoolwear from your school, just use the search function to choose your school by school code. You can get this by asking for the school’s LEA code. If you just want plain uniform, you don’t need a code. You don’t have to register an account, but it has added benefits if you do. The website is secure and easy to use with sections to browse. I could easily find what I needed and everything was in stock apart from the red cardigan, so I got one in grey. Here are some pictures of the uniform for you, but it is pretty standard. They do different styles of skirts and shirts, polo shirts, cardigans, and jumpers so you can choose which one your child prefers.
I’ve found it is high quality and washes well. The only issue we have had is with Phoebe’s cardigan, she found a loose thread around a button, pulled it and the button came off. This was after it had been washed. I like the vibrant red of the polo shirt for Daniel. The material of the polo shirt is nice and thick. I was interested to compare it with a cheaper supermarket brand, the only difference I could find is that Trutex has a higher percentage of polyester to cotton ratio. I usually prefer a higher cotton percentage, but I can’t find any difference in the softness of the material or the strength. I generally felt the Trutex uniform was higher quality, a thicker material.
