My windows with three small children are pretty grimy, with greasy handprints and smears. Cleaning them falls low on the list of priorities. I had a window cleaner for a few months but then I let them go as it was too expensive. The outside of the windows remain pretty good but the inside – quite shocking!
The below picture is a mirror that we’ve taken off the wall during our living room renovation.
Enter the vileda windomatic. It won’t clean your windows for you, sadly you still need to do that yourself and have the impetus to do it, then lose the will to live when the kids put their greasy fingers on it again, but hey, for a little while at least you’ll be able to actually see out of your windows.
It promises to make cleaning windows easy and without effort. It should allow you to achieve a streak-free finish after washing windows, removing window condensation, wiping mirrors or cleaning up spills – yep, you can use it to ‘vacuum’ up those spilled drinks (happening practically daily with a toddler) and dare I say it a stray wee puddle! You don’t need to add anything, it has a charger so no need for batteries. The suction power goes across the full width of the wiper blade, to ensure that perfect streak-free result.
Using the Vileda Windomatic
To assemble it, it’s a simple click together mechanism and then you leave it on charge. Mine had some charge already so I was able to give it a whirl pretty much straight away. You clean the window as usual with your normal detergent, using as much water and suds as you like. Then use the windomatic to remove the water and soap. The flexible head adjusts by 15 degrees and allows you to vacuum right down to the base of the window and into corners. I found it lightweight and easy to use. There’s a simple push button to operate it and turn it off. It’s small enough to fit most spaces. The only slight issue I had was that it left lines at the edges, but if I went over it again that got rid of that problem. The blue tank holds the water and when it’s close to the maximum fill line, you just unclick it and empty it, give it a rinse and you’re good to go again.

Well, for an anti housework Mummy like me – I do like everything clean and tidy, I just lack the motivation to keep it that way, plus life and other priorities get in the way, like sleep, work, wine and chocolate when I’m not refereeing the children – it certainly helps cut down any time spent cleaning and cuts down on mess. I love the fact that I can whip it out when there’s a spillage instead of using up an entire kitchen roll every time.
