I adore crafts, and I’m not talking about the kid’s crafts. I always thought I’d be one of those Mums who enjoyed doing craft with their kids but it turns out I’d rather lie in a darkened room for the day. Why? Because they don’t do it properly. They make a mess, they get bored after five minutes and what they make is rubbish. I know, it’s about the process, but I struggle big time with it. Luckily now my kids are a bit older they are either not into it, or they do it by themselves. I am now at the stage in life where I can do my own craft projects again. I keep seeing some great craft projects to do and I wanted to put them down together so I can refer back to them when I’m looking for a new challenge.
1. Miniature dollhouse rooms
I absolutely adore these miniature rooms. You can get greenhouses, libraries, shops, bedrooms and more. They come in kit form and they just look amazing, with lots of details. I always loved dollhouses when I was little and I had one of my own. It brings back memories of choosing things like mini furniture, dolls house wallpaper and that achingly beautiful mini crockery and tiny food. Here are my favourites:

2. Painting by numbers
My Mum has been doing these in lockdown and they look fabulous. She’s finished quite a few now and she finds it really relaxing.
3. Crystal/ Diamond Art
This is relatively new, a bit like painting by numbers, you stick the diamonds onto a pre-made board according to the pattern. They can be a bit blingy but I think with the right picture would look good and really, it’s about the process isn’t it? I like the idea of sticking the crystals onto the canvas, it would be very satisfying.
4. Resin Art
My friend does resin art and it looks incredibly satisfying. She makes all sorts of things and I have seen some amazing videos of resin art too.
5. Crochet
I’ve made a start on this one, I tentatively learned to crochet and had a few attempts. I see so many cute patterns around that I want to try, but I haven’t been able to move beyond a few basic stitches. I have a unicorn animal crochet kit to make but I got frustrated when I couldn’t master it straight away.
6. Sewing
It’s the Great British Sewing Bee again and every time I’m reminded I want to learn to sew. I can hand sew and embroider, but I don’t know how to operate a sewing machine. I’d love to take an evening class to cover the basics. Once the extension is finished, we will have an office and I’m planning on it being my craft room too, just don’t tell my husband that. Maybe a sewing machine can go in there, what do you think?
Ok, so realistically I’m not going to be doing all of these crafts any time soon, it’s more of a wish list than anything else, but it’s good to dream, right? Other things always seem to get in the way like children, Netflix and sleep. How about you, what crafts would you like to try?
