We always try to keep our house and garden looking good. For one thing, it’s easier when guests come over. And when you come to sell, it will also go down a treat if it’s in good condition. But when you have children, it can be harder than you think to keep it in great nick. After all, kids tend to cause mess wherever they go! And for some mums, they feel like their home will never look good again. The garden, in particular, can often get ruined when you have a family. However, it doesn’t have to be the case that it doesn’t look top notch. In fact, here are some ways you can have a beautiful garden when you have kids.

Keep ball games on the grass

Of course, kids want to play out on the lawn in the garden. And you would much rather they did play any ball games in the garden, rather than near your beautiful furniture indoors! However, even though it’s a good idea to let them play outside, you need to make sure they stay on the grass. After all, it’s so easy for them to kick the ball and it ends up in the flower beds. And then you will have to tend to a lot of injured flowers if they do get smacked by the ball. Also, ensuring they stick to the grass means less likely they will run into your precious plants while playing ball games. Therefore, set some ground rules when it comes to ball games so that they don’t end up causing damage to the other areas of your garden. Alternatively, raised beds and hardy shrubs will help.

Stick to artificial grass

When the kids are outside, they are most likely going to play on the grass. After all, it gives them time in the garden. But over time, if they are constantly running and using outdoor toys on the lawn, it’s going to get ruined. In fact, you will be cutting it constantly to ensure you get rid of the dead grass. And if it does get damaged, it’s not going to help your garden look fantastic. Therefore, it’s worth considering changing to artificial grass instead. With this fake grass, it will stay in perfect condition, even after the kids have been playing for hours. And it requires little maintenance, so you are not going to have to spend hours sorting the garden. A lot of people are swapping to this for the sake of the appearance of their garden when they have kids. And if you are wondering how to install artificial grass, there is a lot of information online which can help you do a great job. Or you might even want to call a professional to ensure your garden looks fantastic.

Make a children’s zone in the garden

It’s a good idea to create zones in the garden before you let your kid play out there. Otherwise, they will think they have the run of the whole garden. And then you can end up with ruined grass and plants before long. Also, it will be a nightmare trying to tidy up all their outdoor toys later if they are all over the garden! Therefore, it’s worth creating a children’s zone which they are allowed to play in. In this area, you can put all their outdoor toys, and even get a table and chairs they can use, so they don’t end up ruining your lovely one in the yard. If you ensure the kids stay in this area, you can make sure you don’t put any plants in this area. And then it will make it much easier to take care of if there is only one particular area which the kids use.

Teach them to respect the plants

One of the easiest ways you can ensure your garden stays in good condition is by talking to your kids about how important plants are. After all, if they understand they could potentially harm them, it might stop them being careless when they are playing ball games or running in the yard. You can also teach them some respect for the plant life by getting them involved in the growing process. If they help you to water them and tend to them, it can make them understand them a lot better. And it will help them when it comes to doing science at school. Therefore, do some gardening together to ensure you boost your kid’s knowledge. And in return, hopefully, they will show the plants and flowers some respect.

Always put toys away when you are done

After a day of playing with their outdoor toys, the kids might end up leaving them all over the garden. And you might not rush out there quickly to tidy them up. But if they do get left out there for a day or two, it could end up ruining the grass. After the toys might be blocking their sunlight. And then the grass won’t get the essential nutrients to stay healthy. And toys all around the garden doesn’t look attractive for when guests come over. Therefore, make sure all their outdoor toys are put away when they are finished. In fact, you should ask them to help you, so that they remember to tidy up in the future! And if they have been playing with the paddling pool, make sure this is emptied and put away too. After all, you don’t want to end up with the water leaking all over the garden. Otherwise, it could potentially drown the grass and plants!

Look into playhouses and treehouses to keep them off the garden

There are some options if you don’t want the kids playing on the lawn near all your lovely plants and outdoor furniture. For one thing, you could consider getting a playhouse. That way, they can still play outside, but all their items will be inside the playhouse. Or if you want to keep them off the garden, you could make the most of your trees by getting a treehouse. That way, the toys will definitely stay off your lawn. And it will be a fun place for them to go with friends.
