Once you have children, it can be difficult to know where to eat out as a family. The truth is, most restaurants will have a children’s menu or will be happy to have families dine with them. There are plenty of tips and tricks to keep your kids occupied when you eat out, but apart from that a good family friendly restaurant does help! With young children especially, it can be hard for them to sit still for long periods, but if you’re in the right place with quick and pleasant service geared towards families, it makes life easier. I’ve put together a list of my favourite family friendly restaurants in my home town of Maidstone, Kent.
Frederic’s Brasserie
Located in Maidstone town centre, Frederics is a family run French restaurant and has a cosy french country theme. The food is yummy and children are welcome. We went to Frederic’s for a Christmas meal a couple of years ago. They also do regular cheese and wine themed nights and live music.
Prezzo
Their children’s menu is very reasonable and kids can get a three-course meal and a babyccino. They provide colouring pens and paper to keep little hands busy. It is located in Maidstone’s Earl street, where lots of restaurants are located. It’s an Italian food chain restaurant. You can see an example from my review post on Prezzo here.

Zizzi
Similar to Prezzo but I feel it has slightly more character. Again on Earl street, they do Italian and English food. Their children’s menu is really good value and the staff are friendly. I had a lovely meal there with just Phoebe and I once. She’s a great dinner companion.
GBK
GBK, also known as Gourmet Burger Kitchen is a relatively new addition to Maidstone. It’s based in the Lockmeadow cinema complex near the town centre. We went to GBK to review it when it first opened a couple of years ago. It’s set out like an american diner, with kid’s activities and children’s menu options. Slightly pricier than your average burger joint, but great for a treat. It was totally delicious.

Wildwood
Set in the heart of Earl street Maidstone, Wildwood serves a mixture of Pizza, Pasta and Grill. It’s a small chain of restaurant and is family friendly. We’ve been several times together.
KalaRED
This restaurant boasts a contemporary blend of Thai, Japanese and Chinese cuisines and is located in Bank street. I love the decor, friendly staff and really nice food. It’s family friendly, especially at lunch times.
Frankie and Benny’s
Again, in the Lockmeadow cinema complex, this makes a great birthday or treat venue for families. It’s american themed and has a lot of options. Kids are welcomed, and their activity packs are great for keeping kids occupied.
Artemis
Artemis is a Greek restaurant in the centre of Maidstone. It has a small selection of kid’s food, but they will love it.
These are my current favourites, I’d like to discover some more local places, we’re also a great fan of family friendly pubs too. If you want a quick way to discover your local restaurants, try the Bookatable website.
