When you start blogging you notice other blogs have these fancy graphics and edited collages, in particular on Pinterest. If you’re not an expert in graphic design how can you compete? When I first started I made it so complicated for myself, I made elaborate collages and spent ages designing graphics. Now I’m much quicker, although the perfectionist in me still likes to spend time getting it right.
What I’ve found saves me time is using templates. I’m a die hard fan of Canva, but recently I discovered Fotojet as an alternative. They are very similar sites, with different templates on offer in pre-set sizes for different social media sites. You simply pick the size you want and it opens up loads of pre designed templates you can edit to look how you want.
I’d been wanting to change my blog header for a while, so I decided to use the Facebook cover template and chose one I could customise. The result is what you see above, and believe me I’m no graphic designer, but I love the way it looks. It encapsulates the many things I like to talk about!
There are lots of free templates to choose from on Fotojet, a photo editor and a collage maker. Some of the templates and features are only available if you upgrade. With lots of people using Canva, the results can look a bit samey, so I like to mix it up a bit now and then. I also had a play around making a YouTube thumbnail. The right thumbnail can make or break your video (you can check out my channel here). I always go by people viewing on mobile, it has to be readable o a small screen, bright, eye catching and tells you what the video is about, or the general gist. I made this one for my approved food unboxing video, you can see from the left hand side where the template came from and I just edited the text, super simple and effective.
So I’m definitely adding Fotojet to my blogging tools. The featured pinterest image for this post? Done with Fotojet, just tweaked a couple of the photos and changed the text. What’s your favourite graphic design tool? Will you give Fotojet a try? If you do and you have any questions, give me a shout. I’m always about in my blogging group Parent Blogs if you have a query or just fancy a chat.
Disclosure: I was given access to the full range of Fotojet’s templates in return for this post. All opinions are my own.
