The Very Hungry Caterpillar Craft Kit Review

Sharing is caring!

Phoebe’s birthday has come and gone, now we’re left with the aftermath of the many craft kits and play sets she got! Her room is like a bomb site, and she’s flitting from one project to the other. She’s always been a fan of the very hungry caterpillar, it was one of my favourite books as a child and I’ve certainly encouraged it. We’ve had the book in many forms – a toddler proof board book and a paperback and we’ve borrowed the story sack from the library. My friend recently made an awesome caterpillar cake for her little one’s second birthday.

I couldn’t resist agreeing to review these two craft sets from the wonderful world of Eric Carle’s hungry caterpillar book. She’s made headway with both already. They’re made by a company called Rainbow Designs and are available from Tesco direct. We got the colour and construct characters and the superdough modelling kit. They come in attractive brown paper packages with the caterpillar pictures all over them.

The colour and craft kit is very comprehensive, you get felt tip pens, pom poms and pipe cleaners and various accessories to decorate your characters with. Phoebe made a very good job of colouring them in and sticking the pieces on, I think they’d be great to hang from the ceiling as a 3D mobile. It would make a lovely gift too. You slot the pieces together and they can stand up for creative fun.

I think the caterpillar has eaten too much and he needs a nice green leaf to munch on…

The superdough model kit comes with instructions to make an elephant and mouse. It doesn’t need air drying or baking, you can just mould and go. It was a little bit hard to stick the appendages together, but a little bit of water made it easier. Phoebe was impressed with what she managed to create.

All in all a good set of craft kits which helps keep little crafters amused. Ages 3 and up due to the small parts.
