Last weekend my family and I were invited to attend the press show of The Tiger who Came to Tea, a musical play based on the popular children’s book by Judith Kerr. We are already fans of the book and we have our own dog eared pop up copy. I dressed Daniel up as our very own Tiger, or Tigger to be precise and we got on a train to London.

I took him in the baby carrier so we could get the train and tube without fuss which worked well. We oohed and aahhed at the Christmas lights around Piccadilly circus and then found the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

We had great seats in the stalls at the front of the stage so we could see all the action clearly. There is a cast of three – Mummy (Played by Jenanne Redman), Daddy (played by Benjamin Wells) and Sophie the little girl (played by Abbey Norman), with Daddy taking the role of the milkman, the postman and the Tiger aswell! It is a lovely play with catchy songs and plenty of audience participation. It’s only an hour long too so no time for the children to get bored or fidgety. Daniel had a sleep for most of it and then he watched some too! Phoebe loved it an joined in with all the actions and songs. William was more stoic but said he really enjoyed it – he’s 6, I’d say it has an age range of 6 months-approximately age 12. When I asked them was there anything they didn’t like the answer was no! We are still singing ‘The Tiger who Came to Tea’ and ‘Yummy yummy sausages, scrummy scrummy chips,’ a week later. The only criticism I had was that the little girl was played by an adult who seemed older to me than the Mummy, but when I asked the children they didn’t think anything of it. It stays true to the original story with some added songs and simple stage props keeping it feeling like a child’s make believe game.

If you’d like to go and see this Olivier award nominated stage show for yourself, tickets are on sale now until the 10th January in London and they also have some shows in Australia. Book Tickets here.

This sounds like fun, I didn’t know they’d made it a theatre show. Unfortunately it’s too far away for us, so I don’t think we have much chance of seeing it unless they tour x

December 10, 2015 at 6:00 amMy boys would love this! I have friends going to see this in London soon too. It is so much easier using a baby sling than push chair in London isn’t it?! Thanks for sharing #whatevertheweather
